Who You Are

VG is seeking a first-rate aerospace Stress Analysis Senior Engineer with experience in propulsion, particularly rockets.  Additional skills in vehicle stress analysis, repairs, and production manufacturing are also beneficial.  The senior stress analyst will compile analysis, reports, models, and margins of safety into standardized formats for upload into VG’s product lifecycle manager.  Additionally, the analyst will support the design engineering staff with drawing release and may support manufacturing with the analysis of dispositions for nonconformances. The analyst is ultimately responsible for ensuring the vehicle structural design meets the customer mission requirements with positive margins of safety.  Additionally, the senior engineer will mentor junior engineers and in some cases act in a lead capacity for substantiation of major structural assemblies.

Your Mission

Responsibilities:

• Reviews, updates, and compiles engineering analytical definition of structural components and assemblies
• Develops standardized analysis criteria and templates
• Plays an integral role in the release process work flow for all structural designs
• Supports review of manufacturing plans and procedures to ensure compliance with design and loads requirements
• Supports the creation of structural test plans which will be used to verify manufacturing
• Mentors junior engineers

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a concentration in a relevant Engineering discipline
• Knowledge of composites manufacturing and sizing of composite structures using FEA models, including pre and post processing of NASTRAN models and associated sizing of composite structures 
• Minimum of 8 years of applicable experience in the analysis of structural systems
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Rocket Motor and Turbomachinary Stress Analysis.
• Experience with free-body diagrams and classical stress analysis techniques
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
• Excellent computer skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Applicants must be “U.S. persons” as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15)

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Hands-on experience with composites part fabrication and assembly processes
• Experience in analysis of Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessels
• Experience with design and analysis of filament wound composite structures
• Proficiency in FEMAP
• Pilot, aircraft homebuilding and rapid prototyping experience a strong plus
• Experience with the design of flight vehicles or vehicle systems to a set of requirements or standards such as CFR 14, Part 400, Part 23 and 25, military or NASA are highly desired
• Experience with supplier qualification is a plus
