Your Mission

Virgin Galactic is seeking an incredibly talented, energetic, and experienced Facilities Maintenance Specialist (FMS) to join our facilities team at our New Mexico offices and oversee all aspects of our Electrical systems. The ideal candidate will be the primary individual responsible for ensuring the Electrical systems are well maintained and that they are ready and operating at their best at all times. They will be the point person on any improvements and maintenance activities regarding those systems.  They will need to maintain strong relationships with the maintenance team members at Spaceport America, any of their contractors as well as other Virgin Galactic team members and contractors. They will be responsible for the facilities as they perform routine repairs, maintenance, cleaning, and assistance to all co-workers which have tasks needing to be completed by the facilities team.


The FMS will also perform basic carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, janitorial or associated work on VG facilities using hand and power tools as directed and will troubleshoot equipment or facilities problems and report to the Facilities Management, within and outside their key specialty as needed. They must be a self-starter, project oriented, able to assess needs, implement strategies, and quickly produce results with a high attention to detail. The key measure of success is well maintained buildings that always provide VG Operations with commercial readiness to successfully operate spaceflight and customer activities.


  • Will be the subject matter expert for all things related to the VG Electrical systems, including preventative maintenance, optimization, reporting, and improvements. Will act as a consultant on any company initiatives that may include Electrical.
  • Will be working directly with the facilities management in the development of maintenance procedures and processes that will lead to well-maintained facilities systems in coordination and conjunction with the company’s business objectives.
  • Works with the facilities maintenance planner with the development of the maintenance, repair, installation and preventative maintenance programs for all infrastructure to ensure the facilities are operating optimally.
  • Works as an independent ambassador for the facilities team as needed to implement policies, procedures and plans.
  • Follow preventive maintenance procedures on all plant equipment in a timely and thorough manner; logging all activities routinely into maintenance tracking software and/or facility maintenance logs.
  • Responsible for positive and prompt responses to requests from the VG Team, Spaceport America resources, and 3rd party services to ensure problems are being solved promptly and effectively.
  • Maintain the operation of equipment and systems in the areas of responsibilities such as compressed air, vacuum, hydraulics, elevators, plumbing, building management systems, electrical distribution and lighting systems, refrigeration, security and fire protection.
  • Participate in planning, ordering, installing and training for new equipment, especially in regards to Electrical
  • Troubleshoot and perform diagnostics on damaged or malfunctioning equipment; make repairs where necessary or recommend to the Facilities Management to arrange for outside supplier to service equipment.
  • Assists the hospitality team in setting up, supporting and tearing down of support equipment for special events being held at the NM facilities.
  • Respond immediately to emergency situations (fire, evacuation, power and equipment failure, etc.).
  • Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and company directives as relates to building operations and practice safe work habits.
  • Performs basic carpentry, mechanical, plumbing and painting of facilities.
  • Operates company vehicles and equipment including but not limited to forklifts, aerial lifts, trucks, trailers, floor scrubbers etc.
  • Provides assistance to subcontractors or other work groups as needed.
  • Available to work a flexible work schedule along with overtime and weekends as requested.
  • Works closely with the Facilities Manager and acts as representative when assigned.
  • Supports and provides leadership with the facilities team members in a commitment to achieve the company’s goals for service.
  • Consistently upholds and applies the company’s policies regarding appropriate professional behavior.
  • Utilizes the Ultramain software to the greatest extent possible to support facilities maintenance.
  • Adheres to all corporate security, IT, and safety processes and procedures.

What you bring

  • Prior experience in Electical systems and maintenance required.
  • 5+ years of related work experience.
  • General carpentry, HVAC, Electrical and plumbing experience preferred.
  • Ability to accurately follow operation manuals, manufacturing and installation instructions, sketches, blueprints and diagrams.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Able to successfully keep multiple tasks running simultaneously.
  • Must be comfortable working in confined spaces.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, customer service, & problem solving skills.
  • Able to provide constructive feedback and creative solutions to problems.
  • Responsible, flexible and fast learner.
  • Willing to learn new skills and grow within the company.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and social communication skills. Demonstrated experience with meeting and dealing with people at all levels of the organization in an efficient and tactful manner.
  • Creative problem solver and able to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A current vehicle license in good standing.
  • Excellent computer skill preferred.
  • Must be willing to work at a remote location.
  • Self-starter, ability to work alone or with minimal supervision.

Suggestions for Education/Certifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Journeyman’s license

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Journeyman Electricial
  • Experience in the aerospace industry would be a plus.

Physical and/or Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to work nights and weekends or overtime as required. Start and stop times may be flexible.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to manoeuvre in tight spaces.
  • Ability to accurately lift up to 50 lbs unassisted and occasionally lift and move 50+ lbs.
  • Must be able to work at heights of 20 feet or more.


ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
