Your Mission

Virgin Galactic is seeking an incredibly talented, energetic, and experienced Project Manager to facilitate the deployment of a Materials Requirements Planning (MRP),Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and a Qualty Management System (QMS) within the Rocket Motor and Propulsion Business Unit.  You will be responsible for the definition, planning, implementation, and execution of these enablers within the Propulsion manufacturing environment requiring coordination with IT, Manufacturing, Engineering, Safety, Quality, and Finance.  You will ensure all requirements are captured, training plans developed, train the trainer programs established, standard work published, User Acceptance Training deployed, and Risk Mitigation plans in place to maintain business continuity through the use of project management fundamentals.

 
Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example through Virgin Galactic’s values, communicating with respect in a straight-up way fostering transparent and open communication.
  • Lead the development of MRP/MES/QMS Deployment for Propulsion (excluding IT), including leading the team through the planning, baselining, executing resulting in the successful deployment of enablers
  • Act as the liaison between the functions to support the deployment of MRP,MES and QMS to support operations while adhering to and delivering established IT standards and processes
  • Train, mentor, and coach the operations team on the benefits of MRP,MES and benefits of mature QMS
  • Ability to manage the Deployment project plan through key performance indicators, including but not limited to CPI/SPI, Budget Fidelity, Milestone Fidelity, Variance Analyses, etc.
  • Ensure accessibility and reliability of the technical assets, i.e., manufacturing operation and tooling along with manual work instructions, are up to date and in the planning systems
  • Configuration Change Management implementation to ensure the proper work instructions are readily accessible to the latest revision
  • Manage strategic projects from conception through sustainment, facilitate execution of action plans
  • Apply technical and functional expertise coupled with leadership skills, program management tenacity with an unwavering commitment to quality of work products and the evolution of our tool kit, ensuring the successful advancement of human spaceflight
  • Work with other company leaders in engineering, manufacturing, and support organizations to gather history and experience to inform project planning and steering
  • Review detailed development, engineering, and manufacturing plans and ensure cross-functional integration and alignment
  • Provide technical input into aerospace compliance policies and procedures to ensure adherence with internal and external rules and regulations
  • Provide technical input into policy and procedure creation, risk mitigation, and business continuity minimize risk and ensure safety
  • Lead diagnosis of work flow impediments and other wastes throughout the business and provide experienced counsel on appropriate Lean Six Sigma tools to eliminate them
  • Improve training, problem-solving, and facilitation skills by pursuing Lean Six Sigma tools that can be scaled across the organization from a best-practice perspective

What you bring

  • Bachelor Degree in Science or Engineering required
  • 5+ years of experience leading, deploying projects in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to accurately assess key business metrics and situations from a “general manager’s” point of view such as number of open IT tickets, severity and time open relative to post-deployment of MRP/MES to ensure a speedy resolution, number of work instructions identified, and what has been uploaded/validated in MRP/MES, number of technicians requiring training, maintaining the status of who has been trained and timing of when training will be complete-time studies from a technicians standpoint interacting with MRP/MES tools and efficiencies are happening, user experience is positive and if not, capture continuous improvement ideas.
  • Independent worker, capable of operating in a fast-moving, ever-changing environment and able to effectively deal with difficult situations
  • Ability to work and influence all levels of the organization, from Senior Leaders, Functional Leaders to project managers and practitioners in all functional areas
  • Experience with complex supply chain management, production of aerospace vehicles, and component manufacturing
  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex product development environment with multiple priorities as well as a disciplined production setting
  • Execute strategic goals and objectives to support the overall company goals and objectives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Team player with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills to present weekly and monthly updates
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years relevant experience working in and developing and successful leading project execution with strategic partners
  • Experience with Oracle and the deployment of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP), or other similar ERP systems
  • Experience with business case development, return on investment assessments and strategic planning initiatives
  • PMP Certified
  • Master Degree
