Your Mission

As a Program Manager, responsible for Propulsion System Lean Deployment, you will be responsible for planning and the execution of lean principles within the manufacturing environment.   This includes coaching the extended team on lean methodologies, tool utilization and continuous improvement framework to mature the existing ecosystem to achieve safety, quality, and waste elimination to secure a world-class manufacturing culture.  You will be tasked to elevate the operational acumen and awareness of lean principles, continuous improvement framework that becomes part of the DNA within the Virgin Galactic Culture from a manufacturing perspective.  

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example through Virgin Galactic’s values, communicating with respect in a straight-up way  fostering transparent, and open communication.
  • Manage Kaizen funnel process tied to corporate objectives; lead a transformation within the manufacturing environment to support scaleabilty, waste elimination and costs reduction enabling a world-class rocket motor production facility
  • Run multiple monthly Kaizen with tracking mechanisms for operational sustainability
  • Execute annual Value Stream Mapping (VSM) with A3 Management
  • Lead diagnosis of workflow impediments and other wastes throughout the business, and provide experienced counsel on appropriate Lean Six Sigma tools to eliminate them
  • Lead/facilitate root cause analysis in problem-solving using DMAIC process to assist vital Nonconformance Report (NCR) or CAPA through process to reduce Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ)
  • Drive the development, establishment and sustainable of  Kanban system with safety stock replenishments based on suppliers’ lead times
  • Improve training, problem-solving, and facilitation skills by pursuing Lean Six Sigma tools that can be scaled across the organization from a best-practice perspective
  • Lead the development of various Lean Six Sigma tools and Kaizen methodologies to be utilized within the manufacturing environment  
  • Train, mentor and coach the operations team of the six-sigma tool application
  • Manage strategic projects from conception through sustainment, facilitate execution of action plans
  • Apply technical and functional expertise coupled with leadership skills, program management tenacity with an unwavering commitment to quality of work products and the evolution of our tool kit, ensuring the successful advancement of human spaceflight
  • Work with other company leaders in engineering, manufacturing, and support organizations to gather history and experience to inform project planning and steering
  • Review detailed development, engineering and manufacturing plans and ensure cross functional integration and alignment
  • Proactively maintain and track program risks and opportunities and provide mitigation plans as needed
  • Regularly report to executive leadership and the broader organization the projects status and performance relative to number of continuous improvements projects identified to closure, Value Stream Mapping exercises, reduction of cycle time and waste elimination to increase speed, costs efficiencies and operator engagement

What you bring

  • Bachelor Degree in Science or Engineering required
  • ASQ Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
  • 10+ years of experience as a practitioner of Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Ability to accurately assess key business metrics and situations from a “general manager’s” point of view
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills to present weekly and monthly updates
  • Ability to work and influence all levels of the organization from Senior Leaders, Functional Leaders to project managers and practitioners in all functional areas
  • Independent worker, capable of operating in a fast-moving, ever-changing environment and able to effectively deal with difficult situations
  • Demonstrated success managing aerospace projects enabling flow to reduce cycle times and implement visual management systems to increase awareness of business continuity
  • Experience with complex supply chain management, production of aerospace vehicles, and component manufacturing
  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex product development environment with multiple priorities as well as a disciplined production setting

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint.
  • Execute strategic goals and objectives in support of the overall company goals and objectives.

  • Team player with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferences:
    • PMP Certification
    • Masters Degree
    • Primavera (P6) Experience
