Your Mission

As the Senior Project Manager, within Procurement, you will be responsible for establishing and executing a plan for our future factory strategy supporting the future evolution and operation of the Virgin Galactic vehicles including the coordination of site selection, equipment planning, facilities layout, and communication with executive leadership.  Your role will be critical in making the complex simple and enabling sound leadership decisions by clearly structuring data.  This role will both develop the requirements for these facilities and ensure that the project meets those requirements.  The execution of this project must be completed within the approved cost, schedule, and budget. This includes accountability for activities across the project lifecycle including managing the performance of suppliers and strategic partners to ensure we achieve our goals of opening space to everyone.

  • Develop and maintain a detailed program plan or Integrated Master Schedule for each of the component projects accounting for the scope of work across all functions aligned to the established Work Breakdown Structure.
  • Execute the approved project plan with accountability for cost, scope, and schedule against the approved program baseline and provide program updates as required by executive team.
  • Proactively maintain and track program risks and opportunities and provide mitigation plans as needed
  • Regularly report to executive leadership, internal and external customers, and the wider organization the team’s performance in the areas of quality, scope, cost, and schedule.

  • Lead by example through Virgin Galactic’s values, with respect to straight-up communication which fosters, transparent, and open communication.
  • Apply technical expertise, leadership skills and program management tenacity with an unwavering commitment to quality and safety to further the advancement of human spaceflight
  • Develop the detailed program plan that creates the roadmap to successful development of new facilities supporting the manufacture of motherships, spaceships, and propulsion
  • Work with other company leaders in engineering, manufacturing, and support organizations to gather history and experience to inform project planning and steering
  • Review detailed development, engineering and manufacturing plans and ensure that the facility strategy aligns with program requirements
  • Proactively maintain and track program risks and opportunities and provide mitigation plans as needed
  • Regularly report to executive leadership and the wider organization the projects status and performance
  • Cooperate and communicate status effectively with the Program Vice Presidents, other program participants and leadership to provide assistance and technical support.
  • Support/Request trade studies to develop business cases resulting in recommendations to support investment decisions

What you bring

  • 8+ years industry experience in facility support, commercial construction, factory planning and progressive technical or leadership roles
  • Energetic, passionate and organized program leader ready to lead a project through the full lifecycle
  • Demonstrated success managing large construction projects ideally with a focus on manufacturing.
  • Experience providing leadership and management for multidisciplinary teams of engineering, manufacturing, and business support personnel
  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex product development environment with multiple priorities as well as a disciplined production setting
  • Experience with logic linked scheduling, Cost Account Management, budget management, and reporting
  • Experience with IMP/IMS, risk management, configuration management, requirements management processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint.
  • Execute strategic goals and objectives in support of the overall company goals and objectives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Team player with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.


ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
