Your Mission

Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Reliability, Maintainability, & Serviceability (RM&S) Manager to join our team. The RM&S Manager will coordinate and manage a team of Engineers to ensure the successful execution of the engineering lifecycle for all programs as it pertains to reliability, maintainability, and serviceability of Virgin Galactic aircraft and spacecraft.  The manager will report to the Director of Systems Engineering. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience working with aerospace vehicle development programs and will have strong experience in project management and leading a team. 



  • Manage and lead the Virgin Galactic Reliability, Maintainability, & Serviceability team
  • Develop and maintain the RM&S processes to facilitate execution of discipline responsibilities
  • Develop and manage discipline budget and staffing needs
  • Coordinate the interaction of the RM&S team to perform Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) / Maintenance Steering Group (MSG-3) analysis (environmental deterioration/accidental damage ratings for structures and zones, functional Failure Modes and Effects (FMEA) for systems and powerplant) of existing, new, and modified systems related to company vehicles
  • Monitor program performance after implementation to prevent reoccurrence of program problems and ensure efficiency of operations
  • Overall responsibility for the performance of the RM&S discipline within Virgin Galactic
  • Participate in risk management meetings
  • Oversee development of preventive maintenance and/or reliability programs for vehicle operations and perform on-going optimizations to programs and vehicle requirements.
  • Perform strategic planning for the RM&S organization as part of the broader Systems Engineering and Virgin Galactic organizations

What you bring

Educational Requirements:

  • Must have a B.S. or M.S. in an Engineering discipline from an accredited university


  • Strong understanding of modern aerospace system architecture and operations
  • Experience working with suppliers and providing specifications for custom aerospace component and system development
  • Knowledge of R&M standards such as RCM, MSG-3, SAE JA1011/SAE JA1012, NAVAIR 00-25-403, MIL-STD-3034, DOD 4151.22.
  • Knowledge of reliability standards and best practice analysis methods that apply to "complex systems" in an operational environment to affect predictive and preventive Maintenance.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn the failure / root cause / resolution processes is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Product Safety standards ARP4761 or Mil-Std-882 is a plus.
  • Knowledge / Experience with Design for Maintainability / Reliability / Testability is a plus.
  • Knowledge of engineering Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems is a plus.
  • Prior experience in aviation maintenance is a plus.
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) or equivalent is a plus.
  • Experience developing and conducting maintainability/reliability Testing is a plus.
  • Experience with Visual Basic, Visual Studio, SQL Server, MS Access, and databases is a plus.
  • Management experience is a plus
  • Must be able to justify decisions with available information and to achieve buy in from peers
  • Must be able to Independently own a project; influence and negotiate with team‐mates
  • Must be capable of building and leading effective cross functional teams
  • Helps others be successful in daily work. Proactively communicate with others and have good presentation skills
  • Organize and plan own work and that of other team members
  • Can be counted on to meet commitments and execute work per schedule


Professional Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience specific to the field of Reliability, Maintainability, & Serviceability Engineering of aircraft or spacecraft development programs
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and grow in the RM&S function
  • Strong experience in development, integration, and maintenance of aircraft or spacecraft systems
  • Strong experience in developing schedules for execution
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and written communication skills
  • Applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15)


ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
