Your Mission

Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Group Lead for Product Safety who will be front line supervisor of 4 to 10 engineers.   The engineering group under the Group Lead’s supervision will be executing multiple projects in parallel in an evolving and at times challenging work environment. The Group Lead will be responsible for directing the group on project execution, managing administrative tasks for the individuals in the group, mentoring individuals, and reporting statuses to the Manager of the Product Safety department.  The ideal candidate will have at least 8-10 years of experience which includes management of engineering groups.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Operate with limited supervision to manage functional team
  • Lead team to make decisions and achieve goals
  • Achieve buy in from team, peers, and management
  • Direct others on technical issues; influence and negotiate with customers or other functions
  • Investigate, propose, and solve complex problems; contribute to and guide architectural decisions and best practices
  • Assign work and manage work processes, including process development
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and career management of a small team

What you bring

Educational Requirements:

B.S. or M.S. degree in an Engineering discipline, Mathematics, or Physics from an accredited university
 

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Must have previous experience in managing small teams of 5 – 10 engineers
  • Should have knowledge of some or all of the following: SAE ARP-4761, SAE ARP-4754A, DO-178C, DO-254, and DO-160
  • Strong experience in developing Product Safety technical documentation
  • Strong experience in developing schedules for execution of Product Safety work for multiple programs
  • Detailed knowledge of the inputs and outputs of the various Product Safety and/or flight safety analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of FAA commercial space regulations CFR §400 preferred
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision to manage a functional team, adaptable to changing environments, and able to handle multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and proactive written and verbal communication skills

 

Professional Requirements:

  • 8 or more years of relevant experience in aerospace or similar field
  • Applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15)


ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
