Your Mission

Virgin Galactic is seeking an incredibly talented, energetic, and experienced Manager, IT Mission and Flight Operations to join our Information Technology team. The Manager, IT Mission and Flight Operations is responsible for the definition, implementation and execution of all IT mission and flight operations activities. Responsibilities encompass the technical mission and flight requirements definition for hardware, software, and services, operations preparation, generation and validation of flight operation plans (i.e., contingency plan), and procedures. The role is also responsible for leading a team of mission and customer experience specialists while partnering, coordinating, and evaluating all technical vendors who provide and support mission and flight activities. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure accessibility and reliability of the technical assets supporting fleet vehicles and equipment maintenance
  • Assist with the technical planning, scheduling and execution of the mission and flight operations
  • Provide technical input into aerospace compliance policies and procedures to ensure adherence with internal and external rules and regulations
  • Provide technical input into policy and procedure creation, risk mitigation, disaster recovery, business continuity and emergency response to minimize risk and ensure safety
  • Assist with the coordination and execution of special mission and flight operations projects
  • Partner with the hospitality and customer experience teams to develop and execute the technical strategies and processes to deliver an exceptional customer experience
  • Assist the flight and test operations team with support of the pilot training simulator and provide feedback on issues and improvements to the aircraft application support team
  • Assist the creative and production teams with Spaceport onsite video capture and production and live streaming technical support
  • Act as the liaison between IT, operational departments, and technical programs to support mission and flight activities while adhering to and delivering established IT standards and processes

What you bring

  • A superb customer service style and the ability to take on any task to support the team
  • Can build a strong rapport with others but can also work independently
  • Maintains excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills; have a background in business skills, management, budgeting, and analysis
  • 3+ years of leading an IT or other technical team
  • Familiarity with Information Technology terminology
  • Demonstrates solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Demonstrates proven ability to manage multiple, often competing project workloads and activities
  • Has solid technical background, with understanding or hands-on experience in software support, infrastructure technology or web technologies
  • Has experience in supporting an Aerospace or Engineering environment
  • Demonstrates excellent client-facing & internal communication skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Has strong extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows operating systems, MacOS, and iOS
  • Creative problem solver, able to work in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Must be able to work flexible hours outside of normal business hours
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces
  • Must be physically able to handle items weighing up to 35lbs (unassisted)


ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
