Your Mission

Virgin Galactic is seeking an engineer with a strong background in rocket propulsion performance analysis, preferably with solid or hybrid rocket experience. Ideally the person in this role will have a background in design, analysis, test data reduction, and flight hardware assessment. This role requires strong physics based modeling skills of propulsion systems and an ability to translate technical references into predictive models.
Ideally the person in this role will be able to validate and improve existing propulsion models as well as develop and refine new models. This position involves reviewing prototype design and test data and identifying areas for further development, testing and analysis to ensure the system meets all requirements.

*This role will have some remote work opportunity, but will require being onsite often with a 1-day notice.


  • Develop, maintain, optimize and utilize various in-house analysis tools to further the state of art in hybrid rocket motor technology.
  • Analyze test data, document, and present findings.
  • Develop test requirements and support the testing Process as needed.
  • Develop and maintain system requirements, qualification, and waiver documents.
  • Interact professionally and technically with vendors as necessary in support of the team mission in a manner that supports VG values.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 2 years relevant industry experience
  • Experience with solid or hybrid rocket system analysis and simulation
  • N2O/He/cryogenic fluid and thermodynamic analysis experience
  • Strong experience with Matlab
  • Experience with Simulink and Labview
  • Experience with CATIA and Solidworks
  • Experience with the design of flight vehicles or vehicle systems to a set of requirements or standards such as CFR 14, Part 400, Part 23 and 25, DO-178, military or NASA
  • Excellent organizational, communication and problem solving skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15).

You must be interested in advancing the state of commercial space technology, specifically groundbreaking, cost effective, passenger carrying, rocket propulsion systems. The Virgin Galactic spaceline is counting on Virgin Galactic to set the gold standard for safety, reliability, and performance.
