Your Mission

As the Senior Materials Planning Manager, you will be responsible for leading the Materials Planners, establishing and executing the build schedules established by the program build managers.  The team of planners will be syncing the job releases and completion status to plan and communicating status with regards to on time completion of manufacturing builds.  You will be responsible for developing and meeting requirements as well as developing and executing a program plan within the approved cost, schedule, and budget. This includes accountability for activities across the planning team ensuring build completion and communication of build status.  As a planning leader you will be expected to develop solutions for identifying risks to the schedule and mitigating these risks to avoid schedule deviations. 


  • Develop and maintain a detailed program in concert with the build managers for executing the Integrated Master Schedule for each of the component projects accounting for the scope of work, procured part status, and reporting status to all functions aligned to the established Work Breakdown Structure.
  • Execute the approved build plan with accountability for cost, scope, and schedule against the approved program baseline and provide program updates as required by executive team.
  • Proactively maintain and track build risks and opportunities and provide mitigation plans as needed
  • Leveraging your experience to help the team navigate challenges including manufacturing effectively, quality resolution, and part availability
  • Regularly report to executive leadership, internal and external customers, and the wider organization the team’s performance in the areas of quality, scope, cost, and schedule.
  • Provide development plans for planning team to continue to grow the capabilities of our team
  • Develop systems to create manufacturing efficiency and productivity

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example through Virgin Galatic’s values, in with respect to straight-up way which fosters, transparent, and open communication.
  • Apply technical expertise, leadership skills and program management tenacity with an unwavering commitment to quality and safety to further the advancement of human spaceflight
  • Develop a dashboard for clear communication of build status for each program daily
  • Work with other company leaders in engineering, manufacturing, and support organizations to gather history and experience to inform project planning and steering
  • Provide feedback and ideas for improvement of supplied materials
  • Proactively maintain and track program risks and opportunities and provide mitigation plans as needed
  • Regularly report to executive leadership and the wider organization the projects status and performance
  • Communicate to and coordinate completion of tasks through production control and manufacturing
  • Provide guidance and training in APICS for planners
  • Assign and prioritize build projects in partnership with the commodity organization
  • Review status of procurement deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective action to meet schedule.
  • Cooperate and communicate status effectively with the Program Vice President, other program participants and leadership to provide assistance and technical support.
  • Support/Request trade studies to develop business cases resulting in recommendations to support investment decisions

What you bring

  • APICS Certification
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preference given to supply chain or engineering degrees
  • 10+ years industry experience in progressive technical and leadership roles
  • Energetic, passionate and organized leader ready to lead a team supporting complex factory planning
  • Experience with complex supply chain management, production of aerospace vehicles, and introduction of materials systems
  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex product development environment with multiple priorities as well as a disciplined production setting
  • Experience with IMP/IMS, risk management, configuration management, requirements management processes
  • Understanding of Produce Lifecycle Management, Configuration Management, Configuration Control, ERP and MRP systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Team player with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferences:
    • PMP Certification
    • Masters Degree


ITAR Requirements
