The Spaceship Company (TSC) is an affiliate of Virgin Galactic as a space-system manufacturing organization. Headquartered at Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave, California, it is building and testing a fleet of WhiteKnightTwo carrier aircraft and SpaceShipTwo reusable spaceships that, together, form Virgin Galactic’s human spaceflight system. Who You Are
You will be responsible for the post-test processing of aircraft data, including recovery, computation, and display. The Associate Data Center Lead will interface with technical personnel in the diagnosis and resolution of problems encountered in the recovery of test data utilizing various data systems, including data servers and specialized data processing equipment. They will mentor engineers in the processing and analysis of data. The position will require occasional alternate shift work periods.

Your Mission

  • Ensure post-test data is properly backed up (imaged), transported, processed, archived, and made available to the users in a timely manner
  • Liaise with the Flight Test Department and Data Center customers/users
  • Be familiar with and adhere to Data Center documentation, ICDs, power space and cooling, data center configuration management, data center security, procedures, and policies, data backup policies and procedures, data center and network standards
  • Work to improve the processing, data quality and integrity, and develop and document new processes to assure there is confidence in the flight-test data delivered.
  • Follow Data Center procedures and processes and keep abreast of industry changes so as to recommend modifications or new procedures and processes for efficiency and/or cost savings
  • Coordinate and/or integrate with TSC design engineers and counterpart VG operations engineering on modifications and/or design change for the Data Center systems and data delivery.
  • Adhere to all Data Center security and escort policies
  • Additional duties as required to support the Data Center Lead

What you bring

  • High School diploma is required; B.S. Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar is preferred
  • Successful aviation/aerospace project engineering management experience
  • Ground/Flight Test control room and/or Flight Test Engineer experience; experience in new or existing aircraft/space systems testing is desired
  • Working knowledge of aircraft and space systems and familiarity with relevant aerospace standards (FAA, FAA‐AST etc.)
  • Experience with analog and digital signal conditioning and data acquisition equipment
  • Knowledge of video compression and recording devices; solid state and magnetic media recorders
  • Microsoft Office and Windows user experience
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Programming experience in shell scripting, SQL, Cygwin, MATLAB, or similar a plus.
  • Experience with control room configuration and IADS a plus (as others stated)
  • A love for well-organized and useful information.
