Who we are

The Spaceship Company (TSC) is an affiliate of Virgin Galactic as a space-system manufacturing organization. Headquartered at Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave, California, it is building and testing a fleet of WhiteKnightTwo carrier aircraft and SpaceShipTwo reusable spaceships that, together, form Virgin Galactic’s human spaceflight system. Like many Virgin companies across the world, its team of over 400 talented and dedicated engineers, technicians and professionals are drawn together by a willingness to disrupt and challenge the status quo and deliver innovative aerospace solutions to our customers’ needs. TSC’s extensive capabilities encompass preliminary vehicle design and analysis, manufacturing, ground testing, flight testing and post-delivery support.

Our Values

TSC and the greater Virgin Organization have a relaxed and informal culture that encourages individuality and innovation.  You will be motivated, enterprising and enthusiastic.  Company culture is such that you need to be able to “check your ego at the door”, be a self-starter and possess a sense of humility.  You will work well under pressure and thrive on being given challenges and responsibility.  You will communicate clearly and be confident and persuasive. You will have a high level of integrity and understand the need of complete confidentiality.

Who You Are

TSC is seeking a first rate, highly qualified Project scheduler and planner to support a variety of programs and projects including vehicle test, modification, sustaining activities and new product development.  The Project scheduler and planner will work closely with the project team(s) and Program Management Office to develop, maintain, and execute their project plans.  This is an excellent, exciting opportunity for a motivated, experienced individual with proven hands-on experience in producing and maintaining engineering and or manufacturing plans for aircraft design, development and support.

Your Mission

  • Organize, create, and maintain project schedules to support Programs, and other identified projects in accordance with Project Management Office (PMO) best practices and guidelines.
  • Assist project team(s) in tasks and sub tasks set up to ensure satisfactory realization of project requirements as scheduled to support Program, and overall objectives/goals.
  • Support PMO performance metrics by adhering to Program WBS guidance, as documented in TSC WBS Guidelines and TSC Earned Value Management.
  • Support PMO and project team(s) by monitoring scopes of work using Program aligned WBS for control and integrity.
  • Interact with PMO and project team(s) to schedule work and coordinate resource assignments.
  • Support PMO and Supply Chain by interacting with project team(s), Team Leads (scope owners), and CE to define scope of work to develop and update detailed schedules, cost information and identification of variances from original plan.
  • Support PMO by evaluating schedule(s) progress and performance, and identify developing problem areas.
  • Support Program and project team(s) by monitoring schedule progress, including identifying critical activities and reviewing forecasts and progress achieved to date. Analyze critical path and constraints to determine effect of changes to schedule and recommend work-around.
  • Develop and update weekly short interval work plans for project team(s).
  • Track baselines, perform what-if analysis, and develop mitigation plans to support Program.
  • Support PMO by documenting all changes to cost and schedule, reporting variances to PBM.
  • Support PMO by assisting project team(s) in maintaining monthly (or as requested by PMO) status reports to keep management informed on project progress.
  • Support PMO in conducting analysis to determine alternative courses of action or recovery on slipped schedules and or deadlines.
  • Support PMO and project team(s) by ensuring accuracy of schedules
  • Effectively interact with PMO, CE, project team(s), Team Leads, Supply Chain, and Finance when required.
  • Additional tasks as required.

What you bring

  • Advanced knowledge regarding the effective integration of schedule and cost in an EVMS environment
  • Experience with products built during the planning processes [e.g., IMP, IMS, Product Breakdown Structure (PBS), Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)]
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Advanced MS Project skills (Resource loading/tracking, basic requirements for earned value, progress tracking, variance analysis, critical path review and analysis)
  • Ability to work without supervision to lead the development of program plans and schedules for multiple programs concurrently
  • Strong facilitation skills and the ability to proactively communicate with all levels of management
  • Ability to motivate and influence others, build effective interpersonal relationships, and be able to foster and contribute to a positive and productive team environment
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in work style to better respond to multiple requests and handle sudden changes in priorities
