The Spaceship Company (TSC) is an affiliate of Virgin Galactic as a space-system manufacturing organization. Headquartered at Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave, California, it is building and testing a fleet of WhiteKnightTwo carrier aircraft and SpaceShipTwo reusable spaceships that, together, form Virgin Galactic’s human spaceflight system. Who You Are

TSC is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Avionics Engineer to join our Avionics team. The scope of the avionics engineering team includes: flight avionics hardware; signal conditioning; data acquisition; actuator control; RF communication; wire harnesses; vehicle guidance, navigation, control; fault tolerance; ground-support electronics hardware and software; and integrated vehicle health monitoring. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience working with avionics and electrical systems in the aerospace or related fields. We are looking for a generalist who will contribute to several roles in a fast paced environment.

 

 

Your Mission

 

  • Design, Integration, and testing of avionics and aircraft electrical systems
  • Evaluate and select COTS avionics subsystems
  • Develop vehicle, system, and component requirements for design, procurement, and test
  • Create vehicle level schematics
  • Testing to include creating test plans. Lead the planning, execution, and reporting on vehicle ground and flight testing
  • Troubleshoot vehicle systems using schematics, multi-meters, oscilloscopes, bus analyzers, etc.
  • Be able to collaborate with and drive multifunction teams to complete all aspects of design, test, and integration of vehicle avionics and electrical systems

What you bring

 

Educational Requirements:

Must have a B.Sc. Engineering degree from an accredited university

 

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Avionics systems
  • EWIS & SAE AS50881
  • Electrical Load Analysis
  • Schematic Drawings – Mentor Graphics, Solidworks Electrical, Zuken, or similar schematic capture tool
  • Hands-on electrical and/or avionics experience with aerospace or related systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals
  • Solid understanding in Project Lifecycle Management tools

Professional Requirements: 

  • 5 or more years of relevant avionics and electrical design experience in aerospace or similar field
  • Strong hands on troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent organizational, and written communication skills
  • Applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15)

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
