    Position Summary

    Virgin Galactic (VG) is seeking a manager to oversee its Technical Publications group and Training department. A team of Technical Publications and Technical Trainers personnel will report to the Manager.  This is a full-time position as part of the VG Technical Operations Team, Quality & Regulatory Compliance Department, located at Virgin Galactic’s base of operations at Spaceport America / Las Cruces, NM.

    Your Mission

    This position is responsible for managing the daily activities of the technical publications group and technical training department.  This position functions out of the Tech Ops Quality & Regulatory Department coordinating with vehicle maintenance, engineering, GSE, and flight operations to properly support all facets of the VG Technical Operations group including liaising with other VG departments to support publication services. The Technical Publications / Technical Training Manager is expected to apply professional experience, knowledge, and guidance to help resolve complex problems.

    • Exercise complete authority over the VG Technical Publications and Technical Training personnel and the associated activities of both groups of personnel
    • Continuous improvement of the Technical Training Department through frequent reviews of the department as a whole and implementation of improvement plans
    • Setting the vision for the Training Department for near term and long term delivery of high quality training
    • Establishing, maintaining, and working to schedules for both the Technical Publications and Training groups that align with and support company goals
    • Work with the VG Technical Operations group in drafting and implementing standards, processes and procedures for the VG General Maintenance Manual (GMM)
    • Coordinate with all VG departments to ensure that priorities are established for the creation, maintenance, and revision of VG technical publications such as the General Operating Manual, Administration Manual, Pilot Operating Handbooks, etc.
    • Participate and assist in investigations of maintenance and safety errors along with developing corrective actions that require implementation of effective training and release of technical publications to help prevent recurrence of those events
    • Understanding and ensuring compliance to all regulatory and company requirements for creating training and technical publications that support compliance to those requirements
    • Identify, develop, and implement policy and procedural changes that support the Technical Publications and Technical Training groups
    • Coordinate with all applicable company departments as required to ensure adequate resources and support
    • Establish staffing and budgeting requirements for the Technical Publications and Training department
    • Establish goals and objectives for the Technical Publications and Training department
    • Provide guidance and support to ensure the release of effective technical publications that support the maintenance of VG’s flying assets
    • Provide direction and oversight to ensure that comprehensive, understandable, and technically accurate job task cards are created and released to support all maintenance functions of all VG flying assets and associate ground support equipment

    What you bring

    Basic Qualifications

    • Four year degree in a technical field – preferably in aviation
    • Experience related to complex aerospace technical publications
    • Technical training experience
    • Proven track record in a supervisory role
    • Ability to work cohesively with direct reports, peers, and senior management
    • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Must have knowledge of computers and software: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook
    • Must be willing to relocate permanently to New Mexico

    Preferred Skills and Experience

    • Strong analytical skills with a focus on critical thinking and business process management
    • Ability to prioritize competing issues and coordinate resolutions with associated departments
    • Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills. Self-motivated and can work independently while still keeping a team perspective.

    Physical and/or Additional Requirements

    • Must be highly organized and able to handle stressful situations
    • Must be able to respond to and support the operations 24/7 as needed
    • Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods – 10 hours min.


    ITAR Requirements

    • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
