    The Spaceship Company (TSC) is an affiliate of Virgin Galactic as a space-system manufacturing organization. Headquartered at Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave, California, it is building and testing a fleet of WhiteKnightTwo carrier aircraft and SpaceShipTwo reusable spaceships that, together, form Virgin Galactic’s human spaceflight system.     Who You Are

    TSC’s Program Manager for Spaceship Propulsion leads all aspects of the propulsion department at TSC in order to deliver products that meet requirements, are completed on time and within budget, and place safety at the core of all activity. The Director of Spaceship Propulsion is accountable for developing and executing the plan for all propulsion activities including, development, design, analysis, test, and production of products including rocket motors, system components and tanks.

    Your Mission

    • Lead the Spaceship Propulsion team in all areas of the Department.
    • Create and maintain a roadmap for the propulsion department that aligns with the business needs of TSC.
    • Develop detailed program planning for propulsion systems that meet all Program, Engineering and Manufacturing needs.
    • Execute program plans with accountability to the budget and schedule and provide program updates as required by executive team.
    • Proactively maintain and track program risks and opportunities and provide mitigation plans as needed.
    • Review detailed development, engineering and manufacturing plans created by functional areas and ensure that they align with the program plans.
    • Formulates and refines standards, policies and procedures for the propulsion organization.
    • In consultation with executive leadership and the People team, design and maintain an organizational structure for manufacturing that maximizes empowerment, clarifies decision making, maximizes productivity and drives strong accountability.
    • Regularly report to executive leadership, internal and external customers and the wider organization the propulsion team’s performance in the areas of quality, cost, schedule, conformance to requirements and safety.


    What you bring

    • Experience providing leadership and management for multidisciplinary teams of engineering, manufacturing, and business support personnel.
    • Demonstrated success managing aerospace programs and projects ideally within the propulsion discipline.
    • Extensive relevant experience in both a development and production environment with both depth and breadth of experience.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex R&D environment with multiple priorities as well as a disciplined production setting
    • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
    • Self-directed with demonstrated passion for space and aerospace development.
    • Resourceful and entrepreneurial to continually elevate TSC’s propulsion team


    ITAR Requirements

    To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
