    Who You Are:

    Virgin Galactic (VG) is seeking a pro-active Senior Systems Engineer who is expected to have detailed knowledge that is specialized but not limited to Server, Virtualization, Network and Storage Technologies. This position will be responsible for tier 2-3 support across the infrastructure, as well as maintain backup and storage applications across a multi-site environment. The Senior Systems Engineer will ensure efficiency and stability of the infrastructure and will be one of the key players in design, standardization and documentation using industry known best practices. This position requires the candidate to have excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication and documentation skills in order to confidently identify and resolve issues. Since this is a senior level position, the Senior Systems Engineer will be expected to play a role in the mentorship and guidance to other administrators, engineers and help-desk technicians. Additional responsibilities include mid-high level knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies and assisting engineers and help-desk teammates with priority incidents in an effort to resolve issues as fast as possible.


    Location: This position will be split between Spaceport America, NM and our Las Cruces, NM office and will also provide support for all VG locations.



    Your Mission

    • Establishes system specifications by conferring with users; analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements; designing system infrastructure.
    • Establishes systems by planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of PC and server hardware, software, LAN and WAN networks, and operating and system management systems; defining system and operational policies and procedures.
    • Maintains system performance by performing system monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting system hardware, software, networks and operating system.
    • Secures infrastructure systems by developing system access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; establishing and testing disaster recovery policies and procedures; completing back-ups and maintaining documentation.
    • Upgrades Infrastructure systems by conferring with vendors and services; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements and new software.
    • Meets financial requirements by submitting information for budgets; monitoring expenses.
    • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
    • Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
    • Assist users to resolve computer hardware and/or software problems.
    • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
    • Provide quick response to ensure maximum uptime of all users and systems.

    What you bring

    • Minimum 7 years of previous IT system administration/engineering experience in a corporate environment
    • Minimum 3 years excellent knowledge on LAN/WAN technologies, including Dell switching hardware, SonicWALL firewalls, IPS/IDS, HiveManager and Aerohive Access Points
    • Excellent VPN, P2P, IPsec, IKEv2, OSPF, BGP, ACL, Port Security experience and implementation knowledge.
    • Strong working knowledge in data and network security best practices.
    • Strong networking knowledge and skill, including network hardware configuration, network maintenance, network performance tuning, etc.                                                  
    • Extensive knowledge with hands-on experience in the following:
      • P2V and V2V
      • Enterprise SAN and other storage technologies like EMC Isilon and Compellent
      • Enterprise Backup solutions like NetVault and Commvault
      • iSCSI and Fibre Channel connectivity
      • OOB management (iDRAC, iLO)
      • Solarwinds, GMS monitoring platform or similar
      • Deploying/maintaining VMs in a high-availability platform
      • Active Directory, GPO, LDAP integration
      • Patch-management
      • PowerShell and batch scripting
      • AD/LDAP/GPO
      • Exchange 2010-16 and/or Office365, including provisioning, distribution groups, delegation, etc.
    • Demonstrated success in an environment where high levels of multi-tasking are required
    • Create a high level of user satisfaction through accurate and timely follow-up & strong technical skills
    • Ability and willingness to work on-call from home, as needed

    Preferred Skills and Experience

    • 4-year College degree in an IT-related field from an accredited college, or equivalent work experience
    • Working knowledge of Hyper-Converged infrastructure (HCI) and access management tools like Okta
    • Must demonstrate superior organization and time management skills
    • Ability to routinely lift 20-40 lbs and occasionally lift and move 50+ lbs 

    Physical and/or Additional Requirements

    • Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed.
    • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and able to maneuver in tight spaces.
    • Physically able to handle items weighing up to 40lbs (unassisted).
