Who You Are
TSC is seeking an experienced and qualified Engineer with propulsion experience. The first task of this role will be to help establish the automated manufacturing process flow and documentation for building selected portions of composite overwrapped pressure vessels (COPVs). The engineer in this position will help define what automated production equipment, tools, systems, and materials will be required in order to create an efficient, organized, and lean factory. After production operations begin, the engineer will support automated production development work of the COPVs and work on process improvement and production optimization using lean processes and tools. An additional task of this role will be to help establish the requirements and documentation for tests in support of the SS2 Hybrid Propulsion System. The engineer in this position will help define what equipment, process, systems, and materials will be required in order to perform safe, repeatable, and efficient tests.

Your Mission

  • Develops mechanical designs and generates drawings for tooling, fixtures, enclosures, and products needed to implement production processes
  • Integrate into a team of engineers, technicians, vendors and subcontractors while performing systems analysis to double-check existing work, and design, prepare and safely conduct critical development and qualification tests
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes on factory floor
  • Contribution to development of test requirements, development of test procedures
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency
  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a concentration in a relevant Engineering discipline plus 3 years on the job experience
  • 7+ years of role related experience may be substituted for formal education
  • Rocket propulsion development and qualification testing experience.  Specifically, experience with
    • Development of test requirements and procedures for components, subsystems, and integrated rocket engine/stage systems
    • Test readiness reviews, issue tracking, resolution, and reporting
    • Test control room hierarchy, etiquette, and protocol
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing philosophies and tools
  • Experience with composite fabrication and assembly processes a plus
  • Ability to read, interpret and create engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of GD&T a plus
  • Experience with manufacturing based ERP systems a plus
  • Strong team player
