    Who you are

    Virgin Galactic (VG) is seeking a Regulatory Compliance Officer/Maintenance Inspector with extensive experience working and complying with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, along with a strong background in aircraft line maintenance and inspection. This is a full-time position at Virgin Galactic’s Mojave, CA test flight facility with permanent relocation to Virgin Galactic’s base of operations, Spaceport America/ Las Cruces, NM.

    Your Mission

    You will be responsible for supporting daily regulatory and quality compliance to FAA and company requirements to ensure safe operations of the spaceline vehicles, as well as providing day-to-day support of the maintenance team through inspections and hands-on assistance with maintenance activities. This role coordinates with vehicle maintenance, supply chain, engineering, GSE, facilities and flight operations to properly support all facets of the VG Technical Operations group. The Regulatory Compliance Officer/ Maintenance Inspector is expected to apply professional experience, knowledge, and guidance to help resolve complex problems.

     

    • Assist with air vehicle airworthiness requirements including compliance to applicable FAA regulations
    • Help develop and maintain launch license compliance requirements including maintaining continuing accuracy
    • Develop surveillance and corrective actions processes and procedures to self-check VG Operations to ensure compliance to federal, state, local, and company requirements
    • Work with the VG Technical Operations group in drafting and implementing processes and procedures for the VG General Maintenance Manual (GMM)
    • Participate and assist in investigations of maintenance and safety errors along with developing corrective actions to help prevent recurrence of those events
    • Perform daily inspections including compliance to the VG Required Inspection Items (RII) Program
    • Assist in developing training curriculum as required
    • Oversight, surveillance, approval, and source inspection of suppliers performing functions for VG
    • Assist Maintenance team with on-vehicle maintenance and inspection duties
    • Provide guidance and assistance to VG Tech Ops personnel on compliance and process requirements related to vehicle airworthiness
    • Provide On-the-Job Training (OJT) for maintenance and inspection activities to maintenance personnel

    What you bring

    • High School diploma or GED
    • FAA Mechanic certification with Airframe & Powerplant ratings
    • 10+ years of experience related to aviation maintenance
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Strong knowledge of computers and software: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook
    • Good working knowledge of FAA Regulation Parts 1 through 19
    • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field is strongly preferred
    • Experience in a leadership role with a FAA certificated MRO or operator (FAR Part 121, 135, 145) is strongly preferred
    • Must be highly organized and able to handle stressful situations
    • Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods – 10 hours min.
