Who You Are

The Spaceship Company (TSC) is seeking a Technical Writer whose responsibilities include planning, developing, and editing a variety of technical manuals including Operation and Maintenance manuals, Pilot Operating Handbooks (POHs), and other supporting documentation to S1000D specification, and outputting these technical manuals into Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) and other formats.




Your Mission

  • Generate and edit technical documents to be used in technical procedural manuals, user manuals, service manuals, maintenance manuals and related technical publications to clearly and effectively communicate instructions and technical specifications to a wide range of audiences.
  • Will review and rework any quality discrepancies related to various aircraft/spacecraft systems. 
  • Will ensure that the documentation conforms to established style guides and standards. 
  • Will work with product managers and end users to ensure all requirements in the technical documentation are met.
  • Will acquire subject knowledge by interviewing product engineers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical drawings and specifications, and engineering illustrations.
  • Will oversee preparation of illustrative materials, select drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. They will conduct quality review of materials.


What you bring

  • Bachelors' degree and 3 years related experience in technical writing, preferably with 2+ years in the aviation/aerospace industry. Additional experience will be considered in lieu of degree
  • Familiar with space and/or aviation documentation formats, including ATA iSpec 2200 and/or S1000D authoring and publication standards, Aircraft Maintenance Manuals, Illustrated Parts Data, Component Maintenance Manuals, General Operations Manuals, General Maintenance Manuals, Pilot Operating Handbooks (including normal and emergency procedures), Technical Orders, Service Bulletins, Technical Directives, Airworthiness Directives, etc.
  • Experience developing customer/service delivery manuals a plus
  • Strong collaborative working skills with the ability to coach and influence the behavior of others
  • Practical approach/leads by example, hands-on and work closely with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication skills, both in writing and verbally
  • Ability to accurately articulate technical materials in a clear and concise manner
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Flexible and open-minded
  • Creative and imaginative, able to support users to determine what’s best for documentation, open to creative and unique ways of presenting information

  • Demonstrated competency in desktop publishing applications
    OneStrand / ADG R4i CSDB and Writer, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), Adobe Acrobat Suite a plus
  • Experience with SGML/XML/S1000D
  • Familiarity with aviation/aerospace operations, pilot and maintenance processes in order to support investigation and problem resolution efforts
  • Familiarity with SQL query structure format a plus
  • Proofing/editing
  • Ability to research data from multiple sources and formats
  • Ability to interpret engineering documentation, to include wiring diagrams and schematics
  • Knowledge of Corel Draw and Photo-Paint a plus
  • Knowledge of Catia and SolidWorks a plus
  • Knowledge of ADG R4i software a plus
